เซี่ยงไฮ้, จีน, วันที่ 16 เมษายน 2019 ― โตโยต้าประกาศว่าในวันนี้ บริษัท ได้เปิดตัวรถยนต์พลังงานไฟฟ้าแบตเตอรี่ C-HR และ IZOA (BEVs) ซึ่งเป็นส่วนหนึ่งของกิจกรรมในวันเปิดตัวรถยนต์ Shanghai 2019 C-HR และ IZOA จะเปิดตัวในประเทศจีนภายใต้แบรนด์โตโยต้า ในปี 2563

นอกจากนี้งานแสดงสินค้าอื่น ๆ ของโตโยต้าในงานยังรวมถึงยานพาหนะไฟฟ้าที่หลากหลายเช่นการเปิดตัวรถยนต์ไฟฟ้าไฮบริด (HEV) รุ่นสำหรับ RAV4 และ Alphard / Vellfire ในประเทศจีน รวมถึงปลั๊กอิน Corolla และ Levin ไฮบริด

รองประธานบริหารโตโยต้าโมริทากะโยชิดะกล่าวว่า “ตั้งแต่ปี 2017 โตโยต้าได้ทำการทดสอบสาธิตกับ Mirai ในประเทศจีนเรากำลังพิจารณาการแนะนำรถยนต์เซลล์เชื้อเพลิงอื่น ๆ เช่น FC Coaster .”

เริ่มต้นจากการเปิดตัวรถยนต์รุ่น C-HR และ IZOA ของจีนที่ประเทศจีนโตโยต้าวางแผนที่จะเปิดตัวรถยนต์ BEV มากกว่าสิบรุ่นทั่วโลกในช่วงครึ่งแรกของปี 2020 และเดินหน้าอย่างต่อเนื่องเพื่อสร้างกระแสรถไฟฟ้าให้เป็นที่นิยม มากกว่า 5.5 ล้านคันที่ใช้พลังงานไฟฟ้าทั่วโลกภายในปี 2573

ณ สิ้นเดือนกุมภาพันธ์ 2562 โตโยต้ามียอดขายรถยนต์พลังงานไฟฟ้าเกือบ 13 ล้านคันทั่วโลก นับตั้งแต่เปิดตัวรถยนต์ Prius รถยนต์ไฟฟ้าไฮบริดในปี 2540 ปริมาณการใช้รถยนต์ลดการปล่อยก๊าซ CO 2 ทั่วโลกมากกว่า 103 ล้านตัน .
